  SMCF is a tool to monitor and control a given system.

  It reacts on either software or hardware failures. The main purpose is to keep the observed system up and running, to minimise the downtime of the system, and to reduce the administration effort.

  功能 SMCF helps to:

  monitor device and process states

  control device and process start-up, shut-down, (re-)connect to processes and I/O-channels

  recover from device and process crashes by automatically replacing and reassigning processes and peripherals ("failover") by back-up processes or devices

  collect statistics on uptime, MTBF, MTTR, etc.

  observe system parameters like CPU load, memory usage (of either system and process basis), disk space, etc.

  SMCF provides a complete overview of all system devices and processes either via icons or MIB variables. It complements Standard Network Management applications with the "Process View".

  SMCF has an object oriented architecture and is fully implemented in C++. It is based on SNMP to communicate with the observed hardware. A full integration of custom processes is possible with help of a special SMCF library. A process table based observation is possible as well.

  SMCF consists of different components:

  a main observation process in operational and stand-by configuration

  a graphical user interface for displaying the state of the system and for controlling the observation process

  an extended SNMP agent to be running on every host
